Dental Examination

Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride treatment comes in many forms. If you would prefer to avoid trays and gel, your dentist can use varnish. If you need a prosthesis but have sustained gum recession or jawbone atrophy, pre-prosthetic surgery can restore the form of your smile. Pre-prosthetic surgery refers to any form of oral or maxillofacial surgery that helps to prepare your mouth for a dental restoration. Depending upon your needs, treatment may involve rebuilding areas of bone loss or smoothing the gums and alveolar ridge. The goal of surgery is to ensure your denture fits as comfortably and snugly in your smile as possible.

Braces
Dr. Adams will begin the exam on the outside of your mouth, assessing your Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) for pain and dysfunction, muscles and soft tissues of your head and neck for pathology, as well as looking at your nose and evaluating your nasal airways. As she moves into your mouth she will screen for oral cancer, assess your oral airways, check your teeth for cavities, tooth wear and or erosion, and your gums for gum disease. She will check the way the teeth function together, as well as identify any need for braces or clear aligners. Our office does not provide orthodontic services, but we often recognize a patient’s need to consult with an orthodontist and we can make a referral to a trusted partner.
