I contacted Southern through their web site and Vicki called me the following morning. She was so professional but I wasn't sure what I wanted and she didn't push. She called me again the next week and was so pleasant that I wanted to do business with them. There is another VW dealer much closer to my house but I drove an hour to Southern because of the way she treated me. Vicki and Charlie met me at the dealer and were so wonderful to work with. I have always dreaded buying from a dealer until I got to Southern Volkswagen. I truly enjoyed my time there and absolutely love my new Beetle. They spent so much time showing me how the car worked and getting my iPhone setup up with hands-free and CarPlay. The sales and delivery team at Southern made this car buying experience an enjoyable experience. They are the best and will be my first phone call the next time I buy a car!

They have the WORST customer service. Go anywhere else but here. Definitely do not ask to speak to the general manager. You be ran in circles and get no where but a headache. Thought I was buying a new car instead I got a lemon and a lot of headaches

I made an appointment for a recall issue for 8AM today. The scheduler told me I would be in and out in an hour and a half. I took it in and the service rep told me it would take at least 2 hours. I finally got my car back at noon. This is unsatisfactory, when I make an appointment and am given a timeframe, I expect you to keep it. I was told several times that there are other cars and to me it's excuses. If you can't fulfill your end then maybe you should give a more liberal time frame and or hire more technicians.

Dishonest

I've waited almost three months before writing this review. Greenbrier's maintenance department dropped the ball and I wanted to give them a chance to resolve the issue. Unfortunately they haven't!

I took my vehicle in for its 20,000 mile service back in October. One of the services included in the 20,000 mile service is a tire rotation. When I picked up my car I was given an invoice that outlined all the maintenance that was done to my vehicle. On the invoice it said a tire rotation was done.

The day after I picked up my car I decided to wash it. Before I took my vehicle in for the 20,000 mile service I had hit my front left rim on a curb. The scratch is small and can only be seen when your up close. It's the only rim on my car that has a scratch. When I was washing my car I noticed that the scratched rim was still in the front left. Which means Greenbrier didn't do there job and they lied to me!

I called my service representative at greenbrier, Jason and ask him why my invoice shows a tire rotation was completed when it clearly wasn't. He called me back and gave me a diplomatic answer and offered to do a tire rotation, detail and top off my fuel. I live in North Carolina and it's a 1.5 hour drive. When I take my car in my wife has to follow me in her car and bring me back home. Then we have to do it again when it's time to pick my car up. So I asked Jason the service rep for a loaner car. He told me he would call me the following week when he got one in.

After not receiving a phone call from Jason for 2 months I called the Greenbrier dealership and asked to speak to Jason and was told he will be on medical leave for a long time. So I asked to speak to the manager, Mike Barnes. He is the service coordinator and is never available every time I've called for him I'm always told he is in a meeting. I've left three messages so far for him and now it's been three weeks and he still hasn't returned my phone calls. This service department has failed on every level! Very poor management. Not only did they not do the tire rotation but they haven't followed through with the car detail and fuel top off that I was promised!

Its not really about the tire rotation it's the principal behind it. I could do the tire rotation myself in twenty minutes. The issue I have is if they didn't do a simple tire rotation what other maintenance didn't they perform that I can't check or know how to check.

Do not go here take your business elsewhere!

Bait and Switch

We are so frustrated after our experience with the sales here. They flat out lied to us and wasted our time.

My husband contacted them about a Jetta he found on truecar.com, and he was told that they would beat the price we found for the same car in Alexandria. We just needed to bring in the offer. So we head out with the intentions of bringing the car home. My husband asks our sales guy if there will be any problems with what we were told on the phone, and was assured that there would be no issue. After we drive it, the salesman goes to talk to his manager. We wait around 20 minutes, and he comes back saying he cannot match the price. Shows us a price $2.5K more. It was also $1k more than what was listed for their Jetta on truecar.com.

Don't deal with this company unless you're ready for the bait and switch. We're heading to Alexandria to buy a Jetta.

I bought my Jetta four years ago from here and had a relatively good experience so I went back last week for a new Passat. This place is in serious need of customer service training. Let's start with the unfriendly manager on the front desk who wouldn't even speak to you. My sales guy did a pretty good job right up until I had to call back the next day because he forgot to give me the spare key, there was no manual in my car, and there was a light out on my rear trunk brake. The dealer told me to come by on Monday and he would take care of everything. WRONG...first the insanely RUDE receptionist told me he wasn't even there and that I could wait 15 minutes for a manager. I walked into the finance dept to see if someone more polite could help me and he went and found my dealer right away...who didn't have the manual and didn't have the key until I reminded him he had it the day I bought my car...oh and service dept was closed so I drove 30 minutes out of my way for absolutely nothing. I received NO apology and a basic shrug of the shoulders and "these things happen" Why do they charge their customers $1200 to certify a vehicle that obviously hadn't even been checked over. I will make sure something is done to improve their service so others don't go through what I did. Trust me when I say this review only covers a bare minimum of the other issues I had there. Do not buy a car from them until they fix their service.

THE WORST!!!!

If I could I'd give O stars!! Horrible customer service. Rude and not focused on the satisfaction of customer. Once car sale is made don't expect any after purchase help. They have given me the runaround for 3 months now. They owe me a refund and have yet to issue it. I call or even stop and by and the best response I've been given is "we will check on it". HORRIBLE!! I will never buy a VW again...and especially not from this sorry excuse they call a dealership!!!

SLOWWWWW & Costly Service

1. It took almost an hour just to buy something from the parts department
2. I recently bought a replacement key which needs programmed. They said it will cost $116 just to reprogram it and more than likely it won't work because I didn't buy it from the VW company directly. Oh and did I mention... in the event it does work, it will take about two hours. TWO HOURS to reprogram a key!!!
3. VW just recently reduced the amount of their warranty FROM 50,000 miles DOWN TO 36,000 miles. Wow!!! Now that's a way to entice new business!!

Overall
I love VW cars, but I will never buy another thanks to this dealership.

Bought a Passat here five years ago. Love the car. Hate the service. Since purchasing this car, I have spent an average of $1000 per year in non-warranty maintenance. Much of this has been a result of a recurring problem with each of the car's four ignition coils. One seems to fail every six to eight months, causing the engine to run rough and te "check wallet" light to come on. Each time this happens, say goodbye to another $500.

They offer free oil changes (you have to make an appointment and then it takes nearly all day). When you make the appointment for the oil change, they offer the service for whatever mileage interval is coming up...so they can find something wrong with your car, and then charge you too much money to fix it. If you refuse to have the service check with the oil change, they suddenly become "booked-up for the next three days...but you can bring it in on Saturday." They tried to charge me $24.95 apiece for spark plugs at the last tune up and they offered to flush the brake fluid (for a charge, of course). Are you kidding me? When I refused the brake fluid service, they called my house and sent me a letter asking me why I was refusing recommended service. Seems like every time a regular service interval comes up, I lose another $600 to $1000 to the dealership.

Never again.
