Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a chronic disease that affects women during reproductive age. More than five million women in the United States are diagnosed with this disease each year. Endometriosis causes tissue that is similar to the endometrial lining (the inside of your uterus) to build up outside of your uterus in places such as, your ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterine wall, and can burrow into numerous “nooks and crannies” in the pelvis. Just like your endometrium, this tissue can shed during menstruation. However, the blood has no way of exiting the body. As a result, this discarded blood and tissue remains in the body, causing pain, scar tissue, and organ adhesion. Although the symptoms of endometriosis can be extreme, many doctors overlook these signs as just a regular part of a woman’s menstrual cycle. In fact, studies have found that it can take as long as nine years before a woman is officially diagnosed with endometriosis. Many women are told that they have irritable bowel disease (IBS) because their bowel function is altered. Knowing just what to say to your doctor about your endometriosis can help speed up the diagnostic process.

A surgical procedure (laparoscopy) may be needed at which time the physician places a small viewing instrument through an incision near the naval to examine the abdomen and pelvis. Many pelvic problems can be treated at this time.
Chemotherapy
Infertility in men can be caused by different factors and is typically evaluated by a semen analysis. A specialist will evaluate the number of sperm, motility, and morphology. Conditions that can contribute to abnormal analyses include varicoceles, medical conditions or exposures such as diabetes, infection or treatment with chemotherapy, unhealthy habits such as heavy alcohol use, smoking, testosterone supplementation, anabolic steroid use, and environmental toxins including exposure to pesticides.
Radiation Therapy
Men. Cancer treatment can destroy sperm production. Many men will not recover their fertility. Semen samples may be frozen at a fertility center before starting chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Samples can be stored for years and used later for insemination or in vitro fertilization.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Any uterine abnormalities can also cause pregnancy loss. Uterine septums and fibroids are often linked to sudden miscarriages. To diagnose theses issues, procedures like a hysterosalpingogram and sonohysterogram are used. These anatomic issues are all reapairable by minimally invasive surgery.
Vasectomy
Antibodies that target sperm and weaken or disable them usually occur after surgical blockage of part of the vas deferens for male sterilization (vasectomy). Presence of these antibodies may complicate the effectiveness of the sperm after the microsurgical reversal of the vasectomy.
Laparoscopy
) are noncancerous growths in the uterus. These growths can cause heavy bleeding if they are in the inside of the uterus. They can also block the fallopian tubes making it difficult to conceive. Removal of these fibroids is called a myomectomy and can be done either by a minimally invasive laparoscopy or hysteroscopy, or a laparotomy (an open procedure requiring a larger abdominal incision). Consult you physician to inquire which option would be recommended for your specific case.
