Dr. Raj Dahiya has been a cancer specialist in Radiation Oncology since 2002. He attended the 6 year combined BA-MD program straight out of high school at the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine from 1988 to 1994. He then came to Dallas to begin his first residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor University Medical Center from 1994 to 1997. Dr. Dahiya practiced as an Internist at the Baylor Senior Health Center in Garland from 1997 to 1998 before entering his second residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1998 to 2002. He served as chief resident in 2001. Dr. Dahiya is board certified in Radiation Oncology from the American Board of Radiology.

The primary risk factors for breast cancer are female sex, age, lack of childbearing or breastfeeding, higher hormone levels, race, economic status and dietary iodine deficiency. The genes associated with hereditary breast-ovarian cancer syndromes usually increase the risk slightly or moderately. In more recent years, research has indicated the impact of diet and other behaviors on breast cancer. These additional risk factors include a high-fat diet, alcohol intake, obesity, and environmental factors such as tobacco use, radiation, endocrine disruptors and shiftwork.

Ultrasound
Symptoms and lab tests help distinguish and diagnose. Imaging studies, such as computed tomography (CT scan) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) can be used to identify the location and form of the cancer.
MRI
The symptoms seen are due to compression of the cord, nerves, and weakening of the vertebral structure. Incontinence and decreased sensitivity in the saddle area (buttocks) are generally considered warning signs of spinal cord compression by a tumor. Back pain in a patient with known malignancy may prompt X-ray or MRI to confirm or exclude spinal metastasis.

Initial Consultation Before committing to having any cancer treatment, most people want more information. Prior to a consultation we provide educational material in print or online. At Premier Cancer Centers, we offer consultations where you may discuss your treatment goals as well as concerns and questions with our physicians. All you need to do is contact us and we will set an appointment where you can learn more and find out if Premier Cancer Centers is a good fit for you! During your consult, you will meet the radiation oncologist and get a tour of the facility. Be prepared to bring current copies of your labs, all pathology reports, all radiology written reports and your imaging CDs. We can also request these with your written permission from other offices. Please bring a list all medication, vitamins, or supplements you are taking as well as informing us if you smoke. This way we can take every precaution to ensure your treatments go well. Our physicians will discuss your suitability for treatments and what treatments will be performed. After you decide to have treatment, we will coordinate the dates and billing information and tell you how to prepare for your treatments. Many breast cancers are found on routine mammography. Sometimes the physician will order a breast MRI for a better image a cancer diagnosis will be confirmed with a biopsy.
Computed Tomography
On the TomoTherapy H Series, a low-dose CT scan of only the treatment area is taken daily to check correct patient setup and adjust the patient as necessary. This way, the therapist can also visualize the tumor and patient's body daily and notify the physician of changes.
Chemotherapy
Excellent local control with stereotactic radiotherapy boost after external beam radiotherapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Hara et al. 2008. Stanford researchers obtained excellent local control (98% at five years) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma using EBRT combined with a radiosurgery boost using the CyberKnife System and chemotherapy.

Skin Cancer
Skin cancers are skin growths with differing causes and varying degrees of malignancy. The three most common malignant skin cancers are basal cell cancer, squamous cell cancer, and melanoma. Skin cancer generally develops in the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin), so a tumor can usually be seen. This means that it is often possible to detect skin cancers at an early stage. Only the minority of those affected will actually die from the disease, though it can be disfiguring. Melanoma is less common than both basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, but it is the most serious. Most cases are caused by over-exposure to UV rays from the sun or sunbeds.
Lesions
Risk factors include high salt consumption, high nitrate consumption, low dietary vitamin A and C, lack of food refrigeration, Helicobacter Pylori infection, cigarette smoking, precursor lesions, and other occupational and genetic factors.
