Worst Dining Experience of my LIFE.
For my 40th birthday, and because I'm Irish, my wife's family took me to Vaughan's for a Rueben. It was the worst dining experience of my life. The food is excellent, but here were the problems:
I ordered a Kilkenny's draft.... they were out.
I ordered a clam strip app... they were out too.
I ordered a Rueben, they were out. (at an Irish restaurant- NO RUEBENS?? What?)
My substitute burger arrived when everyone else had finished their dinner.
My wife's leftovers got thrown out and had to be re-cooked.
Here's the story: After nothing I ordered was available, a cook/mangager came over, he was quite rude.
He asked me what beer I ordered like it was my fault for ordering it. He said, "So, what did you have. Yeah, Kilkenny's. That's never been in stock. We've never had that." REALLY? The Kilkenny's that's the 3rd beer on your drink list in my hand? The one that's 3rd on the online menu too? A fancy menu and fancy online site doesn't matter if its wrong. FYI, they spelled Magner's wrong on the menu too.
Anyway, his rationale for not having Kilkenny's was that they NEVER had it. When I asked why something that they never stocked was on their menu AND on their online menu, he seemed frustrated with me. I asked, "who's fault was that" and got no answer. Dude, don't get an attitude with me. You're the manager fix your menu! If it costs too much, put some tape over it and pay some intern to spend 20 minutes to fix your site. So low class.
The waiter said that they were out of things because of a Pearl Jam concert on Friday. Listen, this is a Irish restaurant and bar. If you're out of a Rueben on Friday, and still don't have it by Sunday, that's pretty bad. Go shopping. You're down the street from the Civic Center and use the event crowds to fund your restaurant, so don't use 'the crowds' as an excuse when it makes you money and uses all your food. Come on, plan better.
So, after I talked to the cook/manager, more went wrong:
Since the waiter had to come back and tell me he had no Rueben's, but had already put in the other order, my substitute order took longer and wasn't brought to me for 15 minutes after everyone else had their plate. Either hold up the other plates or expedite the order for the guy who ordered nothing you have in stock. By the time I got my meal, everyone else at the table was done eating. I sent it back. My wife is a health inspector and my mother in-law is a chef- I hear enough about restaurants to know that that was an error that shouldn't have happened. By the way, you've got '"Mangers' on the draft list. The name is actually 'Magners'. You're an Irish Bar, you look like hacks.
Lastly, my wife asked for her fish to be boxed up. They forgot. Had to wait another 15 minutes for them to recook a leftover order of fish. Waiter didn't say anything when half a piping hot order was brought out, but after asking about it 3 times, I wish he had said something.
So, on my 40th birthday, you didn't have the beer I ordered from your menu. You didn't have the appetizer I ordered from your menu. You didn't even have the Rueben I ordered from your menu. The hamburger I ordered instead... that came when everyone else was done with their meal. And because they threw out my wife's leftovers, she basically got 2 meals and I got none.
Happy 40th birthday, right.
