Child Support
Every child has the right to be supported by both parents. On January 1, 2007, new child support guidelines were implemented in the state of Georgia. Previously, child support was based upon a percentage calculated from the non-custodial parent's gross annual income. Georgia now utilizes the shared income approach to child support.
Child Custody and Visitation
As with anything involving your children, you want to make certain you do what's best for them. Sometimes new circumstances warrant an alteration of parenting time or even a complete change in custody. Georgia courts take child custody very seriously and will only grant a custody modification if there has been a "significant change in circumstances."
Adoption
If you would like to adopt a child in Georgia, the requirements may vary based on the adoption process that you choose to complete (for example, private domestic infant adoption versus stepparent adoption); these are the general requirements for those wishing to complete a Georgia adoption.
Paternity

Premarital Agreement
Property Division: Dividing marital assets is complicated â€“ especially for couples with many high-value assets. Georgia uses equitable division to divide marital assets fairly. Property is allocated between spouses, and while the final division wonâ€™t be equal, it will be fair to each party. Most marital assets are considered joint property, which must be divided equitably. Exceptions typically apply to inheritances, personal gifts, and assets protected by prenuptial agreements.
Guardianship
Often it is necessary for grandparents or other third parties to seek guardianship to meet the needs of children when the parents are not able or willing to meet the needs of their children.
