Dental Examination
Once your examination and cleaning have been performed, your dentist will tell you about the health of your teeth and gums and make any additional recommendations. By seeing your dentist on a regular basis and following daily good oral hygiene practices at home, you are more likely to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
X-rays
The purpose of the first visit is to allow the doctor to complete a comprehensive examination and to address any of your needs and concerns. A thorough analysis of your oral health utilizes a visual exam, dental x-rays, models, intra-oral pictures (inside the mouth) and extra-oral pictures of your smile. It is important that you share your medical history with the doctor by providing complete, up-to-date information on your health.
Oral Cancer Screening
Finally the soft tissues are checked for ulcerations or other lesions. As part of a comprehensive examination, your dentist will perform an oral cancer screening. While oral cancer is rare, it can be a deadly disease. Early detection can mean the difference between life and death. The dentist may also check your jaw and associated muscles.

Teeth Cleaning
Most children and adults should see their dentist for a regular cleaning and check up every six months. Individuals at a greater risk for oral diseases should have dental check ups more than twice a year. Tobacco and alcohol use, diabetes, pregnancy, periodontal and gum disease, poor oral hygiene and certain medical conditions are some of the numerous factors that your dentist takes into consideration when deciding how often you need your dental cleaning and check up.
Fluoride Treatment
During your regular checkups, we examine the health of your mouth, measure the bone levels around your teeth, check for decay, screen for oral cancer, examine your restorations, evaluate your bite, and remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. In the case of children, and for some adults, a fluoride treatment is given and sealants may be applied.
Dental Sealants
The pits and grooves of your teeth are prime areas for opportunistic decay. Even with frequent brushing, one can sometimes miss the tiny particles of food caught in the grooves of the chewing surfaces of your teeth. Sealants are liquid plastic coatings that are designed to prevent the intrusion of bacteria and other debris into the deep crevices on the top surfaces of your teeth.

Initially the dentist checks the history of your mouth, noting existing restorations and determining the presence of cavities and broken fillings or crowns. Dental decay may appear as a hole or sometimes as a dark shadow underneath the surface of the enamel. If there is a hole in a tooth the dentist may place a temporary filling to prevent food accumulation. Teeth that exhibit problematic sensitivity or ongoing pain may be pulp tested for root vitality.
Bridges
If the tooth cannot be restored, surgical extraction of the infected tooth is a last resort option. The missing tooth may later be replaced with a fixed bridge or dental implant.

Root Canal Treatment
If cavities aren't treated early enough, they can lead to more serious problems requiring treatments such as root canal therapy.
