Dental Care
When I took my oldest dog in for a dental procedure, Dr. Heather noted a lump on her leg that looked abnormal. She tested it, found out it was cancerous, and removed it all in one visit just because she was concerned for my dog. I love this clinic, the staff, and will come here with all my pets.
Vaccination
Vaccines – Vaccines represent just one part of your pet’s health maintenance. Because not all vaccines have the same indications, benefits and risks, we only encourage vaccines to be given in conjunction with a recent professional evaluation. We do offer private vaccination appointments for those that have been professionally evaluated recently.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
Eye problems often require urgent assessment and treatment. To help us provide timely eye care we have tonometry, indirect and direct ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein dye, topical anesthetics, and tear film tests to manage most eye conditions right away.

“For almost a year now I have been taking my dogs to Canal Vet. My experience has never been less than excellent! My primary vet is Dr. Larsen, but we have also seen Dr. Heather and both take the time to explain all procedures to us from start to finish. Their office is clean and the front desk staff always acknowledges who you are when you walk in. Most importantly, I never have to wait past my appointment time. With two or more dogs in your hands at one appointment, there’s no sitting in the waiting room with ten other animals and their owners wondering if one of the dogs coming through the door will have less than good behavior. They also have excellent pricing. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a new vet.”

Parasites Treatment and Control
Fecal Testing – A majority of puppies and kittens have intestinal parasites that can infest their environment and even their people! Our adult pets can also be infected with tapeworms and other intestinal parasites that can only be detected with a fecal exam. Depending on your pet’s environmental risks, we recommend ongoing fecal evaluations. Most treatments are best chosen in conjunction with a recent evaluation of your pet’s general health.

Heart Disease Treatment
To help promote population control, we offer spays and neuters at a 20-40% reduction of our normal surgery fees. We also include complete anesthesia, hospitalization, and our “safety first” anesthetic services; such as perio-op antibiotics, IV catheterization, IV fluids (when indicated for blood pressure support), pre-anesthetic sedatives and monitoring (ECG, respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature and oxygen saturation) at no additional charge! If you start out with one of our puppy or kitten plans, we give you an additional 10% off our already reduced fees. Whenever possible, we will offer an additional reduced rate for “catch-and-release” spays and neuters of feral cats.

Spaying and Neutering
Spay/Neuter – Our spay/neuter services follow the same “safety first” anesthetic protocols, of the American Animal Hospital Association, that all of our other major surgeries follow. A spay is the equivalent of an ovariohysterectomy procedure-where the whole uterus and both ovaries are removed. A neuter is the equivalent of a castration-where both testicles are removed.

Laboratory Services
Anesthesiology is a very powerful science and art that requires high technical knowledge, skill and experience. Our doctors and technicians are highly trained and certified, have many years of anesthetic experience, and follow very strict guidelines and protocols to assure your pets’ safety (our “safety first protocol”). Every patient, who is to undergo an anesthetic/sedation procedure, is evaluated just before anesthesia (often with the addition of blood work) to assure a healthy state.
X-Ray
Dental Radiology
Most pets have dental disease by the time they turn 5 years of age. Besides just causing mouth pain, dental disease can lead to other, more serious problems with organs. Since many pets hide what’s going on inside their mouths (besides bad breath!), we do a dental evaluation; which is included in our full physical exam. From there, we can provide a plan and estimate for a deeper dental assessment and cleaning (including dental radiography and/or subgingival probing), a thorough ultrasonic scaling (something far more involved than the hand scaling done by your own dentists!) and high speed polishing. Any teeth that are causing pain and/or progressive bone loss/infection should be surgically extracted. An antibiotic injection is given to prevent bacteria from entering the bloodstream and, of course, we follow our Safety First anesthetic protocols, for both general and local anesthesia, to provide a pleasant and thorough dental procedure for your pet.
