Daycare playgroups are mixed (different sized dogs and different ages) and are supervised at all times. This allows puppies to learn manners from well-behaved older dogs.

Following completion of his internship at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Ward practiced for three years in a large, 24-hour hospital in Charlotte. Following relocation to Wilmington, Dr. Ward worked as an emergency clinician at Animal Emergency and Trauma Hospital of Wilmington prior to the opening of Wilmington Animal Healthcare Veterinary Hospital in February 2006. Dr. Ward has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, emergency medicine, and dentistry.

Neutering (orchiectomy) is the process of surgically removing the testicles and spermatic cord of a male dog. Neutering can be performed at any age, but is done ideally around 6 months of age. Neutering can provide you and your dog with several health benefits.

Laboratory Services
For puppies and kittens, we need to see them on a more frequent schedule during their first year of life. For pets over age 7, we recommend exams and blood work every 6 months to help us detect diseases and issues before they become a problem.

Dr. Lewis is originally from Birmingham, Alabama, and the middle of five children. Her mother is a small animal veterinarian and helped to develop her love of veterinary medicine from early on. Sara attended undergraduate school at the University of Alabama (ROLL TIDE!) and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biology and Spanish. She relocated to North Carolina to be with her husband, Jon, while he was serving in the Marine Corps. They loved the Wilmington area and have settled down here!
