General Info: South Carolina Electric & Gas Company, also known as SCE&G, is a regulated public utility that provides natural gas services to more than 297,000 customers throughout the state. It is also engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity to more than 623,000 customers in South Carolina. Founded in 1937, the company s service territory covers an area of more than 22,000 square miles. It operates more than 20 power plants and employs over 2,800 people. Additionally, the company operates a store center that offers a variety of resources to deal with storms and power outages. South Carolina Electric & Gas Company is the principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation, whose businesses include regulated electric and natural gas utility operations, telecommunications and other nonregulated energy-related businesses.
