Dental Examination
Your first visit to our office will consist of a comprehensive examination and consultation to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to meet your individual needs. It is important that any patient under the age of 18 be accompanied by the parent/guardian.
X-rays
Insurance benefits for treatment are obtained at your initial visit. Please be prepared to cover the cost for your examination fee and any needed X-rays taken at your initial visit. If you have benefits available for these services with your insurance, we will bill your respected carrier. If you have had recent X-rays taken, please have your general dentist forward them to our office or bring them with you to your appointment. This will avoid additional charges for these as most insurance plans have limitations for full-mouth and panoramic X-rays.

A procedure called crown lengthening can correct “gummy” smiles. “Gummy” smiles make teeth appear too short. With crown lengthening, the gums and supporting tissues are reshaped to expose more of the tooth.

Periodontal Surgery
In certain cases, periodontal surgery may be recommended to treat periodontal disease when non-surgical treatment is ineffective. We may advise procedures such as pocket reduction, soft tissue grafts or bone regeneration to treat periodontal disease. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Jaw Surgery
Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the jaws and the teeth. Often, these abnormalities cause difficulty associated with chewing, talking, sleeping and other routine activities. Orthognathic surgery corrects these problems and, in conjunction with orthodontic treatment, will improve the overall appearance of the facial profile.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Since 2003, Dr. Ernie S. Woodward has been providing patients with exceptional oral and maxillofacial care. Highly educated, he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1991 before completing his dental school prerequisite courses in 1995 at Shelby State Community College in Memphis. In June 1999, Dr. Woodard graduated with highest honors with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He then completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, earning his certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in June 2003.
Tooth Extractions
To potentially stave off this result, an extraction of one, several or all of the wisdom teeth may be advised. If that is the case, we have the equipment and training needed to perform such extractions, with an absolute minimum of discomfort. Ask our staff for more information regarding tooth extractions if you feel you may need one.

Orthodontics
Orthognathic surgery may be unnecessary if orthodontic treatment can correct the problem. With the latest advances in orthodontics, this is sometimes the case. We will determine if orthognathic surgery is the correct treatment option for you.
