Very disappointed. Overcooked overloaded with dry rub chewy and not very meaty.

This place has some of the most wicked seasoned bbq you'll ever eat. I hate it's closed on Sunday and Monday. I devoured everything like a mad pig. People gave this place bad reviews because they don't have taste buds. Beware of that Rendevous serves spicy hot soul food that will make you come back for more!

It seemed like everyone told us that we had to have Rendezvous BBQ when we moved to Memphis. We were not impressed with it at all. They do have a great BBQ sauce but that was about it. Because the building was so old and "underground" it had a damp smell to it. The ribs we had were very fatty and it was not what I expected. Maybe it was because so many people pumped us up on it being great food that we got such a bad taste in our mouth, maybe it was just the atmosphere or the food in general. I would recommend the sauce though!!

Provided by SuperpagesA coworker, originally from Memphis, suggested that I dine at this barbecue restaurant during a recent visit to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl. The food was excellent and the next time I am in Memphis I will certainly be back. It is a little tough to find because the entrance to the restaurant is in an alley. Nearest landmark is the Peabody Hotel.

Provided by SuperpagesThis place was so cool, down in that basement alley near the famous Peabody Hotel. The service was great and the atmosphere enjoyable. My ribs were a little dry and tough, but I hear that is not the norm. The sides were quite good. I would go back!

Provided by SuperpagesThe dry rub is absolutely outstanding. For diners that may not care for dry rub or need additional kick, a wonderful liquid sauce can be added. One can choose from mild to hot, depending on preference.

Provided by SuperpagesAlways the best sauce and rub. I buy a case when I go to visit once a year from St. Louis. The hot bbq sauce is good but only need a couple of those. I use the dry rub on everything and give it out as gifts for Christmas. Love the sausage and cheese plate. Plus you're open when I leave St. Louis after work on a Friday I hit the Voo' before I check into my hotel. Absolutely love the southern hospitality since I'm from Little Rock Arkansas orignially.

- The Rendezvous, founded by Charlie Vergos in 1948, started out as an 80 seat tavern serving ham and cheese sandwiches. When Charlie cleaned out the basement beneath his diner, he discovered a coal chute and started a barbecue legend. The coal chute gave Mr. Charlie a vent for his considerable talent over the grill. He developed a unique seasoning fusing his Greek heritage with spices he enjoyed from New Orleans. Mr. Charlie was a collector and hung antiques, memorabilia, and artwork on the walls. This, along with a soulful jukebox, lively waiters, and aromas from the kitchen helped him to create an atmosphere unequalled in the city of Memphis. Today, the restaurant is run by Mr. Charlie's three kids, but the ribs still taste the same as they did in the beginning.
