Dr. Houston is originally from Blakely, Georgia. He received his under graduate degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia and Oxford College of Emory University in Oxford, Georgia. Dr. Houston graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Hillcrest Health Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and completed his Family Practice Residency at the University of Alabama Family Practice Program in Montgomery, Alabama. Dr. Houston is Board Certified in Family Practice by the American Board of Family Practice. He is a member of the American Academy Family Practice and the Georgia Academy of Family Practice. He has extensive experience in occupational medicine having previously served as the company physician for the local Miller Brewing Company, and the M. and Mars Company for 22 Years. He is on staff at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and Phoebe North Hospital. Dr. Houston is married to Sandy, a local CPA. Together they have two children, Heather and Harrison. He enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and hunting.

Dr. Devell Young is a board-certified Internist from Natchez, Mississippi. He attended Morehouse College on academic scholarship graduating magna cum laude. He later matriculated at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, receiving his medical degree with distinction. While at Brown, he met his wife, Loretta Jefferies of Providence, Rhode Island. They began their life in Houston, Texas where Dr. Young did a three-year residency in General Internal Medicine. Dr. Young is fully engaged with his community, lecturing at churches, social events and as a radio host participant. He enjoys exploring all things African, including art, instruments, history and culture. He has successfully written a genealogy of the Young family. Dr. Young is the father of five children and grandfather of three grandchildren. His motto is, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

This convenience enhances the value of these procedures by streamlining the process of evaluating results and initiating appropriate action.

I use two techniques to look for and follow the progress of this disease. The most important is a CT scan of the heart (no contrast injection is necessary) which is used to produce what is called a “cardiac scoring.” It is most important because it produces a precise measure of the severity of the disease. The presence of any calcium, even trace amounts, means the disease has started there. The bigger the number, the worse the disease. How quickly the number is increasing (or decreasing) shows us how effective the treatment is in controlling the disease.
