Board Certified Psychiatrist; 25-years on medical school faculty, offering private, confidential, compassionate care for a wide range of problems and specializing in anxiety, panic disorder, and depression. Dr. McDermott uses psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and medication in a healing mix of kindness, wisdom and the practicalities of speedy and efficient help. Dr. McDermott has had medical psychiatry offices in Bay Ridge and Park Slope since 1979. He shares his office suite with his psychotherapist wife, Marie R McDermott, LCSW. Marie McDermott, LCSW is trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and a wide range of psychotherapies including interpersonal psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, energy therapies, EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. Marie McDermott is a co-founder of the Center for Advancement of Training in Hypnotherapy; she spends most of her time with clients and devotes part of her time to training and supervising other professionals in the use of recent advances in psychotherapy.
