Dental Examination

X-rays

Teeth Cleaning
After their checkup and teeth cleaning are complete, the doctor will meet with you to discuss x-rays, answer any questions you may have and develop an individual treatment plan if follow up visits are needed.
Fluoride Treatment
In the lap exam you will sit knee-to-knee with one of our hygienists, with your child secured, lying back across a cushion in your laps. The hygienist will perform a cleaning and review your child’s nutrition and home healthcare, using puppets to engage and educate. The doctor will then come in for the exam, looking at tooth development, signs of decay, and applying a topical fluoride treatment.

Root Canal Treatment
The American Dental Association recommends sealants for all children, even those with relatively good oral hygiene. Sealants are truly ideal for older children who have adult teeth that are vulnerable to cavities and decay. Pediatric dental sealants are a preventative measure that can potentially save families a lot of money in dental fillings and root canals down the road. In addition to using sealants, if we see that your child is missing certain areas while brushing, our hygienist will coach them during their visit on the best brushing technique.

Dr. John W. Gannon was born in Denver, Colorado but raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico as the oldest of three boys. He attended college at New Mexico State University graduating with honors as an Industrial Engineer. After recognizing his engineering degree was well suited for a different path, Dr. Gannon decided to return to school to pursue a career in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Gannon went on to train at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was the chief resident and earned a postdoctoral certificate in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. There he trained under Dr. Robert Marx, the leading internationally recognized expert in bone biology, bone grafting and pathology. Needless to say, all of Dr. Gannon’s experience makes him one of the best oral surgeons in Dallas, TX.
