Ms. Ricci is a certified physician assistant accredited by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and has been in practice since 1998. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University and a bachelor of science degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. She is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Ms. Ricci gained additional specialty training in dermatology by working in the UT Southwestern post-graduate physician assistant program in dermatology. Prior to joining Dermatology Physicians of Dallas, Ms. Ricci worked as a physician assistant in several other dermatology clinics, as well as in an emergency department and in a family practice/urgent care clinic.

Skin Cancer
A skin biopsy is a simple procedure that is performed during your office visit and involves taking a small sample of skin tissue, which will be sent to a dermatopathologist for microscopic evaluation. If a diagnosis of skin cancer is made or confirmed by a biopsy, surgical removal will most likely be indicated.

Acne Treatment
After photodynamic therapy a sunburn-like effect is normal and can last for several days. This can mean anything from being light pink to a swollen, red, itchy sunburn. Peeling may begin on day three or four. Patients must stay away from any sunlight and bright fluorescent indoor lighting for 48 hrs and use a sun block SPF at least 30 daily. Avoidance of sun sensitive medications will be advised including discontinuing Retin-A®, Differin®, Tazorac® or other topical retinoids as well as glycolic or salicylic acid products for several days before and after each treatment. -- Photodynamic therapy is a well documented effective alternative to traditional acne treatment as well as a cost effective treatment for patients with multiple actinic keratosis (pre-skin cancers).

Lesions
Levulan®, when applied to the skin, is absorbed by targeted problem areas. A VBEAM laser will be used to activate the medication which kills bacteria in acne, destroys sun damaged and pre-cancerous cells, suppresses oil glands, targets broken facial veins, and rejuvenates the skin. Following a series of treatments there will be a noticeable improvement in skin texture and tone. Acne breakouts will diminish and pores will tighten. There will be a decrease in redness, flushing and broken capillaries as commonly seen in rosacea. Precancerous lesions will resolve and sun damaged skin will be rejuvenated.
