As part of the indictment, it was charged that kickbacks were exchanged between Esformes and corrupt medical professionals, with high-end escorts flown to Orlando and chauffeured in limousines for liaisons with Esformes at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.Â Esformes drove a $1.6 million Ferrari Aperta and it was alleged that he used $300,000 of the stolen proceeds to bribe the head menâ€™s basketball coach at University of Pennsylvania to admit Esformesâ€™ son.Â The coach at the University of Pennsylvania pled guilty to money laundering and testified against Esformes at the Miami trial.Â A jury convicted Esformes of paying bribes, money laundering and other crimes.Â At the time of his sentencing Esformes said â€œthere is no one to blame but myself.â€
Extortion
Reports continue of medical practices having their data hijacked electronically and having to decide whether to pay extortion money to the hackers to hopefully regain control of their data.Â The latest public report is of an Ohio urology group who reportedly paid $75,000 to hackers in ransom to regain control of its computer system and its data.

We also suggest that physicians who are employees insist on a new contract rather than letting their old contract rollover year after year.Â The reason is simple, the new Indiana rules on physician non-competes only apply to agreements originally entered into on or after July 1, 2020.Â This may mean that annual rollover contracts entered into in 2019 or before, do not have to comply with the Indiana requirements for physician non-compete agreements that are in new physician employment agreements.
Non-compete Agreement
Since July 1, 2020, Indiana law has required that any physician non-compete agreement contain five provisions intended to make non-compete agreements less awful.
