General Info: Founded in 1939, Harry E. James Elementary School serves students in kindergarten through grade five. The school maintains a special staff for music, art, language, technology and physical education. It operates the Parent Alert System, which keeps parents informed and involved to assure student safety and success. Harry E. James Elementary School conducts the Standards of Learning Booster Program to provide small group tutorial assistance in the core areas of English, science and history. The school s special events include Wild About Reading, Dr. Seuss Celebration and Principal Sundaes. It also maintains the Just Say No Club to teach students about the effects of drug and alcohol abuse. The school additionally conducts the Title I program, which includes literacy, reading recovery and small math groups to assist students with reading and math. Harry E. James Elementary School has a parent-teacher association and operates the Parent Resource Center, which provides training, support and information for the parents and educators of students with disabilities. The school is governed by Hopewell City Schools, which runs several middle, high and other schools. Harry E. James Elementary School is located in Hopewell, Va.
