Dental Examination
X-rays
Dental X-Rays are very safe and the amount of radiation from dental X-Rays is very small. Today’s equipment filters out unnecessary x-rays and restricts the x-ray beam to the area of interest. Dental X-Rays are designed to limit the body’s exposure. Pediatric dentists are very careful to minimize the exposure of their patients to radiation. In fact, dental radiographs represent a far smaller risk than an undetected and untreated dental problem.

The assistants at Houston Pediatric Dentistry are all Registered Dental Assistants requiring them to complete continuing education courses yearly in order to remain certified. Our assistants have also demonstrated proficiency in dentistry by receiving certifications involving the monitoring nitrous delivery, taking and processing radiographs, placing sealants, and coronal polishing.

Crowns
If your child fractures a tooth, then gather any fragments you can find and store them in a clean container of milk, or saliva of the child that lost the tooth. Never use water to transport a broken or knocked out tooth. It is important that you visit the dentist immediately to prevent infection and other complications that are brought on by chipped or knocked out teeth. If the tooth is knocked out, only touch the crown of the tooth and not the root. Your pediatric dentist will be able to repair your child’s tooth, or fix it with a crown.
Restorative Dentistry
Dr. Stephanie Aramwattananont (Dr. Aram) is a Houston native and was born and raised in Cypress. She graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Human Biology. Dentistry has been her passion since high school after five years in braces and almost every orthodontic appliance ever made. After seeing what an impact it made on her life, she knew that is what she wanted to share with others. She went on to earn her dental degree from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston and excelled in restorative dentistry and patient care. Focusing on prevention and educational is an ultimate goal of hers. She aims to change people's outlook on oral health by taking the time to educate patients and parents, involve them in their treatment and provide them with the highest quality care in the gentlest way possible. She currently resides in Montrose and loves traveling and, trying new restaurants. Her belief is that the best way to explore another culture is through food. She is passionate about animal rescue and has three adopted dogs Chloe, Winston and Buster.

Impacted Teeth – An impacted tooth is a tooth that does not fully erupt above the gums. This is typically caused by overcrowding, your jaw is too small for all of your teeth or the tooth is erupting in the wrong direction. Not all impacted teeth require oral surgery.

Invisalign Orthodontics
Invisalign® treatment uses a series of virtually invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that allow you to smile more during treatment as well as after. Every 2-3 weeks, patients move to a new set of aligners that help to gradually move teeth into their proper position. Invisalign clear aligners are made with 3D computer imaging technology and have been proven effective.
Braces
A palatal expander, often simply called an “expander” is an orthodontic appliance that fits over several of the top teeth and in the back of the mouth. Using a specialized key, the device is gradually widened to gently encourage more space in the jaw. After the proper placement is made, bones naturally gill the gap and solidify the expansion. Expanders can help with a number of childhood orthopedic problems including crowding, crossbite and impacted teeth (described in greater detail above). They are often required to begin correcting these problems before braces can be used.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Bret Ibarra is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. After two years of residency, he obtained his Pediatric Dentistry certificate from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Dental Branch. At that time, he also earned a Master of Science in Dentistry degree. During his pediatric residency, he received extensive clinical and didactic training in treating children with special needs, cosmetic dentistry, and the use of sedations in dentistry. He also has extensive pediatric emergency and trauma training after serving as an on-call pediatric dentist for two years at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He is certified in both Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
