- As Executive Vice President of Clinical Operations for Healthcare Associates of Texas, Dr. Powell supports all healthcare providers, oversees clinical compliance and quality initiatives, develops clinical protocols, and guides the organization’s mission of superior service. With board certification in Family Medicine, and as a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Powell also continues to care for patients, however on a limited basis. While the well-being of his patients remains his top priority, Dr. Powell’s administrative role allows him to impact more lives as he relieves burdens from HCAT providers, thus enabling them to provide the absolute highest quality of care to their patients. Dr. Powell received a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. In New Orleans, he served as the Director of Clinical Services at the Naval Ambulatory Care Clinic and also as a Staff Emergency Physician at the Saint Charles Parish Hospital. Dr. Powell has been married for almost 20 years and is father to three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and LSU football – go Tigers!

Provided by Doctor.comDr. Powell is amazing! He is patient and kind, and has a great sense of humor too. He explained the Tongue Ablation treatment in precise detail to me and explained why I would not be a good candidate. I appreciated the time he took to explain his reasoning, including giving me examples of people who were good candidates for the treatment so I could better understand why I am NOT a good candidate. Dr. Powell is very friendly and engaging, not intimidating at all. I was comfortable asking him questions and I did not feel rushed. Very impressed with his knowledge. It should also be noted that Dr. Powell is the Founder and Inventor of the Tongue Ablation procedure (The Powell Procedure) and thus, it makes sense that he is the Ultimate Expert on discussing this amazing medical procedure!
