DUI/DWI
A majority of people who are charged with a crime in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, especially in the counties surrounding Philadelphia, are charged with driving after imbibing, or as it more commonly known, driving under the influence. This crime carries a graduated penalty, based on your blood alcohol level and the number of times you have been arrested within a ten year period. The ten year period begins on the date of conviction, not arrest. I have linked a chart setting forth the various penalties involved with a DUI conviction.
Traffic Violations
Often, when you get a traffic violation, it seems that the easiest thing to do is to pay the ticket in order to avoid spending the time necessary to contest it. However, doing so can affect your driving privileges and insurance rates. By paying the fme, you are pleading guilty and subjecting yourself to the unknown penalties later imposed by PENNDOT as a result. The accumulation of points on your driving record can lead to the suspension of your driving privileges and an increase in your insurance rates. Many traffic citations carry the immediate loss of driving privileges. You may not find out about this until it is too late to do anything about it.
Assault
You are not eligible for a Probationary License if you have been convicted of DUI, granted ARD for DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle with DUI, driving under suspension CDUI related), suspended for refusal to submit to chemical testing, or offense for death or personal injury without a license within the seven years prior to your application. If you have ever been convicted of homicide by vehicle or homicide by vehicle while DUI, you are permanently prohibited from obtaining a PL.

Social Security Disability
If you are not capable of working due to an illness or injury, you may be eligible to receive Social Security Disability or SSI benefits. The rules and procedures for proving disability can be complicated. Most people are denied benefits the first time they apply, even though they meet the requirements for disability under the law. Navigating the Social Security Administration’s requirements for both filing appeals and presenting evidence makes it difficult for people to win benefits on their own.
