They replaced my starter, intake manifold gaskets and repaired a faulty wire that leads to the starter. The bill was around $900. When I picked up the car, I drove it for a day and a half and it was hesitating and obviously wasnt running properly. I spoke to Neil and he said it would cost me $210 for them to find the problem. He insisted that the previous work was perfect and refused to believe they made any mistakes. He said there was nothing wrong with the starter, it was the wire and they only replaced it because I told him that I thought that was the problem?!! I’m not a mechanic?! My trust was gone at that point and I told Neil I was taking it to another mechanic and he said that was fine, they warranty the work. The new mechanic found that not only was my valve cover gaskets gone now and the charge pipe was cracked but the wire they “fixed” was now melting and needed replaced. They put a copper end on a steel cable and everything under the copper was melting. I called Dons and told them of the additional $2000 in repairs due to their work and because I couldn’t prove they ruined the valve cover gaskets and cracked the charge pipe (all immediately problems that didn’t exist prior to their work) I thought they at least owed me back the cost of the wire. They refused. They placed me on hold and never returned to the phone. This by far was the worst experience ever to a mechanic.
It is unfortunate that this customer diagnosed her own car, and misdiagnosed it. It was towed into our shop as it did not start. Customer wanted to save money and skip the diagnostic fee by going online to BMW forums. After her online study, she diagnosed her own problem to be a starter issue. To further save money; she decided to be a savvy shopper, called the BMW dealership for a quote. Since BMW would charge her more money, she had her BMW towed to us, as we quoted the price of the starter for less money, over the phone. She gave approval to replace the starter. BMW's have many computers on board and we feel it is necessary and more accurate to run diagnostics first. Therefore, saving money, cost her money. Initially, she authorized us to only replace her starter. That is what the technician did. During the process, he found a frayed battery cable that connects the battery to the starter. Most likely, this frayed contributed to starting issues. Our technician, with 35 years of experience, put a new end on the frayed cable for her. An 'under the hood' video was made of this finding and shared with the customer for approval, prior to doing it, which she agreed to replace. At customer's request, "do not repair or diagnose other issues". Our Master Technician, ASE Certified, attempted to resolve customer complaint by explaining the importance of a diagnostic evaluation and offered to do it for $105.00 X 2 hours labor, or $210 total. Customer refused. The accusations made by the customer regarding other car problems are inconsistent with the work our technician did and are located in an area we did not work on.

My car hasn't been anywhere else since it rolled off the lot in '04. Incredible customer service and they've always taken care of me. I won't change a lightbulb that goes out without taking it to Neal or anybody else at Don's

I was told there were leaks from the valves-repair was made-freon added-I paid extra to have dye inserted to check for more leaks. Went back and was told valves were leaking-told guy valves were just fixed. Another guy said he had worked on it and spilled some dye so there was no leak. A few months later-there was no cold air again so I went back and was told they couldn't find a leak so just filled it with freon again. I have had no further problem but wonder what really was done to the a.c.
