The staff is very knowledgable and helpful. Plus personal attention and hands on training; not just a big cattle call.

Trying to keep it short, I felt this was a waste of hard earned money. I witnessed a biased instructor towards students, both positive and negative. They don't inform you up front front that your odds of actually "getting" a bartending position straight out of school are extremely slim. They just tell you to sell yourself. That's only part of it. You still have to have experience and a few weeks of schooling isn't "experience". It truly doesn't matter that you have that school on your resume unless maybe you're applying to their leads. As for the leads, the ones I actually applied to, that I felt were safe enough, were not even aware students were applying. Or so they said when I'd call. The one lead I gave to a experienced bartending friend, turned out to be working for a somewhat "flaky" individual who does not do what he tells you up front. Hired bartenders end up being waiters who don't make tips. If you're hoping to get a job in a hotel/casino, plan on being a barback or cocktail server to get your foot in the door.
If you really want to have bartending as your profession, join the union. They offer classes, no charge, that will properly train you and give you real help to get a good job. You'll have to join the union anyway if you want a hotel/casino job so you might as well "play" in their sandbox. Oh, these were recommendations from actual, working bartenders in MAJOR hotel/casinos. Friends who told me I'd wasted my money....Something I'd already figured out. Good luck to you no matter what you choose.
An education must be acquired before experience can be earned. The Academy provides you with the education you need to become a professional cocktail server or bartender in only three weeks. If you feel unprepared or are not confident enough to sell yourself and your new found knowledge, the Academy does offer a one-time free refresher course for all graduates. Our next course begins August 4, 2008. The Union’s next bartender program starts Sept/Oct and takes 16 weeks to complete. You must be employed as either a bartender or bar back, working a minimum of 24 hours a week, before you are allowed to apply for the Union Training Program. Also, not all hotels/casinos are Union. All licensed businesses in town are eligible to offer employment to our graduating students. As the Director I address the class before graduation regarding seeking employment and I specifically instruct the students to make sure they have investigated the location that they are applying to and know that it’s a place they want to be employed for what the establishment has to offer. Choosing what locations and positions to apply for has always remained up to the discretion of each individual. The Academy or any other licensed bartending school cannot make promises of employment upon graduation.

The school offered great teaching as to what it is like in the "real world" of bartending and cocktail serving. Very detailed and informative. They actually cared about how we would conduct ourselves on the job-making sure that we were aware of things down to the smallest detail. My only suggestion on how to improve the experience would be to offer alot more bar time. Repetition is the key to learning.
Best Regards,
Denise

Wonderful! What's great about this school is that you're crossed-trained for both cocktailing and bartending. The instructors keep your attention and the classes are fast-paced and informative. The only thing that can stop you from success is you! Instructors are willing to help you reach you potential all in 3 weeks. It well worth the investment!

I was a student at APCS&B and graduated in the August 2007 class. Both instructors were phenominal, Stacia and John were great and I learned a lot. I was able to find a bartending position within 2 weeks of graduation and I am very grateful for the entire experience.

I think it was a very great school. The staff was friendly, it was a very hands on environment, if u did'nt understand something they will make time for you to get it down packed. If you did'nt pass or feel you got it the first time they would allow you to repeat the the course at no charge. Its a great program and I would refer anyone I knew that was interested in that field to go there.
