Medical Weight Loss
Hip replacement is a solution for patients with severe osteoarthritis who have already attempted conservative treatments, such as physical therapy, steroid injections, weight loss, or activity modification. Hip replacement alleviates pain by removing the affected bones and cartilage and replacing it with a prosthetic implant that imitates the function of the joint.
Primary Care
Christine has worked for Orthopedic Partners since October 2012 as a medical scribe. She has a background in primary care, pharmacy, anatomy and physiology, biology and genetics. She primarily assists Dr. Kruse with medical documenation during all of his clinic visits allowing him to focus his time and energy on the patient.

Electrocardiogram
All patients undergoing joint replacement must have a preoperative physical exam by their primary care provider which may include blood work, urinalysis, and EKG.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by an abnormal amount of pressure placed on the nerve within the wrist. Patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome will often experience numbness, weakness, and pain in the hand and wrist, which may radiates up the arm.

MRI
To confirm the presence of a torn ACL, Dr. Kruse will perform a series of tests on the knee. Imaging tests, such as an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) are often used to check for evidence of a torn ACL or injury to other components of the knee, such as the meniscus or articular cartilage. Dr. Kruse will observe the knee's flexion through orthopedic tests, such as the Lachman test, to confirm the presence of a torn ACL.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
Pre-operative CT scans are not a standard requirement for knee replacements, this represents an extra step for the patient, the surgeon and the healthcare system. This extra procedure can cost patients additional time, money and exposure to radiation.

Orthopedics
Justin started working at Twin Cities Orthopedics in May of 2012 and has been working with Dr. Kruse since July of 2012. He is an Athletic Trainer and has experience at the high school, college and professional sports levels. Justin initially greets patients and starts the evaluation process for Dr. Kruse. He assists with fitting and applying casts, braces, and various other supplies.
Arthroscopy
For an athlete, surgery may be required to return shoulder function and strength to pre-injury levels. Fortunately, rotator cuff tears can be repaired through minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as arthroscopy.
Wound Care
In addition, the use of bathroom aids, such as a shower chair or gripping bar, will make bathing easier and safer, and placing frequently used items in a centralized area, to minimize stair climbing, is recommended. Wound care is a critical component of the recovery process; as such, wounds should be kept clean and dry, especially until sutures or staples are removed.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery is the preferred surgical approach for many orthopedic conditions, including ACL tears, meniscal tears, and rotator cuff repairs, as well as hip or knee replacements. Minimally invasive surgical procedures are performed through small incisions, benefiting the patient by potentially providing less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay, less scarring, and quicker recovery. This approach also benefits patients that are restricted from undergoing open surgery for musculoskeletal pain relief.
Joint Replacement
Joint replacement surgery involves the removal of a damaged joint and replacing it with an orthopedic implant. Whether it is for a hip or knee, orthopedic implants are designed to replicate the feel and function of a natural joint. Since being introduced to the United States more than fifty years ago, joint replacement surgery has grown by leaps and bounds through technological innovations that improve accuracy of implant placement, improve alignment of components, and utilize less invasive approaches.
Orthopedic Surgery
Computer-assisted surgery refers to the use of computerized technology to assist in operative planning and performance of orthopedic surgery. These programs operate much like a GPS system for the operating room, and help the surgeons execute operations in a very precise manner. While it is not necessary for all orthopedic surgeries, computer-assisted surgery provides potential benefits beyond traditional surgery, including an additional level of precision and reliability to the procedure.
Arthroscopy
In this procedure, the orthopaedic surgeon will view the inside of the knee joint through a small camera, diagnose severity, and determine the proper approach for treatment. If arthroscopy surgery is the best option, the orthopaedic surgeon will insert special instruments through additional incisions to remove or repair the damaged tissue.
Hip Replacement

Knee Replacement
While non-surgical methods are often the suggested initial treatment, in some cases, knee surgery is necessary to completely repair the affected joint. The different types of knee surgery include partial knee replacement, total knee replacement, and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery.
Knee Arthroscopy
If conservative treatments fail to remedy the knee condition, Dr. Kruse will suggest knee arthroscopy as the preferred surgical option. Knee arthroscopy allows the surgeon to view the inside of the joint without making a large incision. Instead, a fiber-optic camera, known as an arthroscope, is inserted through a small incision made on the knee. The arthroscope sends real-time imaging back to a monitor in the operating room, giving Dr. Kruse clear view of the joint. Through a second incision, tiny operating instruments are inserted, allowing the surgeon to clean the joint of loose tissue and perform the arthroscopic repair.

Physical Therapists

Sports Medicine
Overuse and overextension can often result from an athlete not being in the appropriate physical condition for a particular activity, or the neglect of warm up or stretching routines. While many sports injuries will heal gradually over time, these injuries often require the attention of an orthopedic doctor to ensure successful healing.
Physical Therapy
Potential non-surgical treatment methods for a rotator cuff injury include rest, physical therapy, medications, and activity modification. Depending on the severity of the injury and activity level of the patient, these conservative treatments may adequately relieve the pain and improve the function of the damaged shoulder.
Occupational Therapy
Post-operative recovery for total knee replacement surgery lasts several weeks, and may include physical therapy and occupational therapy, temporary immobilization of the joint, and tempering the knee's weight bearing with a cane. Full recovery can take up to three months, with some patients noticing gradual improvements beyond this time frame.
