Please do not take your pet here. We love our pets and wouldn't take them to the ER if we didn't. My dog nearly dies from dehydration while in the care of DR. Barbara Maton. The Dr. failed to provide and recommend a fluid IV for nearly 6 hours even though he had a temperature of 104.7. I consulted with several other Vet's who questioned the tests that were done and the failure on their part to performe more relevant tests. There was never any treatment or diagnosis given after eight hours at AVETS. My dog "Enzo" almost didn't make it to see our Vet during regular business hours due to severe dehydration. Please do research there are other places to take your animal in the Pittsburgh area. I filed a grievance with AVETS and they responded by covering for DR. Maton. If you must use AVETS ask questions and consult with a more experienced and committed professional while your sick animal is being cared for.

After being told my cat was going to be okay and will come homw with me, I woke to a phone call at 3am telling me the only option was surgery or euthanasia. After spending thousands of dollars surgery was not an option as they also do not do payment plans and the only way to finance was if being accepted for a credit card. After many staff ensuring he would be okay because he was very healthy, I had to put my best friend to sleep. I was left with a bunch of medicines (they could not return legally), an empty home without my best friend and an empty bank account. To then receiving a phone call telling me I can pick my boy up-- they did not mention his ashes. Thats the phone call i was expecting to get but when he was alive. After to speaking to a few friends I learned these people are surgery friendly... this could have been avoided if i brought him to another place, most places will work on a payment plan if the procedures get costly such as this one. He was supposed to come home

I am giving this a 1 star review because we sat in an exam room for over two hours with no one coming to check on us or tell us what was going on while there were plenty of staff walking past our open door. Not one of them checked on us.

I took my very sick cat to this emergency vet. They did not diagnose the illness. After a $500 bill they send my very sick cat home. My cat is dying as we speak.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! The staff at the front desk were very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible, the doctor on the other hand was total opposite. Continued to try an change my mind on the care I wanted for my dog, was insisting on things to be done that did not even accommodate with the issues she was having, and after spending $452.00 I had absolutely NO ANSWER on what was wrong with my 2 an a half year old dog. She then wanted me to keep her over night for an extra $1000 to monitor her, which was definitely NOT happening I would never of trusted them with my dog. My dog was totally out of it when I took her home I thought she was going to pass away. If it wasn't for me knowing what my dog needed she NEVER would of got the care. Next day went to her regular vet they gave me totally different answers from the blood work then Avets did and gave her the care she needed. That place is all about making MONEY they do not care about what your pet needs, sickening I would NEVER recommend anyone to go there, I should of read the reviews before I went!!!

Awful!

I will never go to Avets again! My cat was acting weird, walking slow, hunched over, walked into a wall, couldn't lift her head, etc. I called and told Avets this, and they told me it was something neurological, and could wait until the morning. It was about 11pm, and my vet was closed. At about 2am my cat began throwing up and panting. I decided to not listen to Avets and take her asap. It was about an hour drive. I got there and even though there was absolutely no one else there, I waited 30 minutes in the waiting room. Once we finally saw the vet she decided to do xrays on her stomach. No idea why. She came back and said she might see something in her stomach. Also told she might be diabetic. We were told she wasn't sure and didn't want to start insulin. She recommended her staying the weekend for fluids, and it would be $2000-$3000 a night! When asked if we could some how make payments we were just told no. That is fine but the lady didn't even seem to care. I had no choice to wait for my vet to open in a couple hours. She told me it wasn't critical and it would be fine to wait. I asked if she could at least give her some fluids. After 2 hours she still didn't even.on her own give my dehydrated cat fluids??? The total cost was $600 for nothing. By the time I got to my vet, my cat got so bad, they had to put her down. My vet immediately told me she had diabetes and a brain stroke. Yet Avets wasn't sure, and was checking her stomach! I will never go there again. They are unknowledgeable, slow, and money hungry. We are heartbroken. Our cat was 15 years old, and to see her suffering, and be told it wasn't that critical is insane. Never go here!

Only if its an emergency!!! And if you take your pet there make sure they tell you all the costs upfront. Even the medicine. They will not tell you that you can get most of the at your local pharmacy and they may be covered in your health care. Everything costs three times as much as another vet in the area.

We took our dog there because it was a sunday and they over charged because of it. The next day we took our dog to our regular vet and his estimate was one third. BEWARE!

We had a good experience with Avets hospital. We didn't have to wait very long and were pleased with the quality of service. The price was around what we expected for an emergency visit and everything else; lab tests and medicine. They were compassionate to our dog and responded to all of our questions professionally. We recommend this place to others for their emergencies services.

One of the best dog hospitals in Pittsburgh! The service is fast and the doctors smart, which are, both really important for emergencies! We took our dog here because he swallowed one of the new puppy's toys this past weekend. (I swear that dog is lacking brain cells because he is always getting into trouble.) Luckily, they were able to remove the toy before any serious health issues could happen. Thanks again Avets!

Decent emergency care. We had to take our dog to Avets a couple weeks ago. We must say, they are very professional and thorough during the exam. They took the time to explain the treatment options to us and were understanding while we decided what to do. A worthwhile side note, Avets services are a tad bit more expensive than your regular vet. But considering the dire circumstances, my wife and I were just glad there was a place like Avets open on the weekend.

outstanding one thing you have to remember .. It is an emergency room.. you go there when your doctor is NOT in. and that is what I did.. my dog was loosing weight. and was seen so many times by my pets doctor. then the day she fell over and we thought she couldnt get up. we went right to AVETS. they kept her for four days. for diabetic acidosis. suger was over 1000. when she came home. she has to be on special food two shots a day. thank you AVETS for finding this.

Mixed Feelings

My cat was very ill and needed to be hospitalized for testing and I was pleased with the way the technicians treated me and the prompt follow-up by the doctor but the downside was the cost. It is very expensive.

Just when you thought the old song and dance routine was over it comes back and bites you(no pun intended.) This operation will shake your hand, high five you, slap you on the back and get into you wallett in on fale swoop.Without even consulting with our regular vet as to what if any test were preformed (most were done just one day before.) they grab the cash and the animal and run. $ 2,000.00 dollars later they said they found something (turnes out if was the same thing my regular vet found for $ 140.00.) additional tests will be needed (Grab the money and the pet and run.) $ 1,500.00 more thy found something but would not tell me what it was until I brought the animal up for more treatment.(Grab the money and the animal and run.) When I showed up without the animal I was told there would be an additional fee of $ 190.00 (Grab the money and the animal and run.) for consultation but the animal needed tretement. Being dumb but not stupid I went to a regular vet who had the report faxed to them. After reading the report I was told tretement would not help and to take the animal home and enjoy him as long as I can. Mabey this operation is in money trouble I don't know but they sure are money grabbers.I was told to go to an operation on Camp Horn RD. Iguess I should have.
