I have never been treated so rudely as I was by the owner of this company today. I like to buy local, especially since my family has a business in town. I have been buying sports equipment from this company since I played softball in the 80's. I needed lifeguard shorts for my son to work at the Y this summer and thought of MAC. I went in on 5/13/15 and a blonde lady and a lady with short brown hair were helping me. I told them this was new to me and was trusting them to give me the correct info. They had navy and red shorts. I asked if the Y had a preference and the blonde headed lady stated they did not. They only had navy in his size and they were on sale. The brown headed lady stated that they were probably not getting anymore in because people were buying on the internet. I stated that I would order from them if given the option. I purchased 2 pair, a whistle, and a lanyard. I found out this morning 5/14/15 that they can only wear red. I went into MAC with the shorts in the bag with the tags still on and my receipt. The owner and the brown headed lady from the day before were at the counter. I came in and said " unfortunately, the Y will only let them wear red so I need to return these trunks." The owner immediately said we do not take back sale items and "I can't help you" in a very rude tone. He stated that the sign stated this and they told me yesterday. I said that nobody told me anything yesterday about that policy. He said he couldn't help me and I left the store. I got into the car and my kids reminded me that I had asked the blonde headed lady if the Y did not let them wear blue could I bring them back and she responded yes. I looked at my receipt also in the car and nothing was on the receipt about sale items. I wanted to ask about my receipt not stating anything about sale items. As soon as I opened the door the owner motioned for me to get out with his arm and hand pointed toward the door. I asked him about the receipt. He said that there were signs in the store and pointed to one that said refunds only within 10 days of purchase. When I pointed out that it was not on the sign, he pointed to a piece of paper taped to the counter that stated no refunds or exchanges on sale items. He kept saying, very rude tone, about how I was told yesterday. I said, " Nobody told me yesterday". He then said you are lying! I said you are calling me a liar? I asked if he was the owner and he said he was. I said the reason that your business is declining is because you must be treating people as rude as you have treated me. Now, I understand about policy. I was in the store yesterday just trying to purchase the trunks for my son's first job. I didn't care about price. I wanted to buy local and the right ones. Now, the sign is at the counter and I did not pay attention to it nor was it pointed out yesterday at the time of purchase. If I had been told that there were no returns on the navy I would have probably double checked before purchasing. I certainly would have not tried to get my money back if I was aware. The total lack of customer service, the total rudeness exhibited by the owner, and being called a liar is what I have a problem with and will not support this business ever again.
