Chapter 7: If you qualify to file Chapter 7 all of your dischargeable unsecured debt will be wiped away entirely and you can usually stop making payments as soon as you file. Dischargeable debt includes credit cards, signature loans, older taxes and medical expenses. Examples of non-dischargeable debt include student loans, child support and taxes that were assessed within 3 years.
