Fine Speech Beth Pathologist

Beth Fine was one of the few speech therapists that works with our insurance and we came to her for the purpose of speech evaluation about 6 months ago. I don’t usually write online reviews, but we had a negative experience so I wanted to share that.

Our family speaks two languages at home and I have notified Ms. Fine about that. She said that she can evaluated my son only in English which seemed OK to me. I learned later, from 3 different speech therapists, and a Special Education District Administrator of the Board of Education that is was unprofessional on her behalf to have an “english only” evaluation for a bilingual child. She should’ve at least notify that it won’t be as valid as a bilingual evaluation (in fact I couldn’t even present it to the Board of Education, which was the purpose of me getting one).

Surely, a therapist with so many years of experience, should've known that.



Second thing was the issue with our co-pay.

We have a very high co-pay ($75). By the end of evaluation we realized that our son wasn’t feeling well and could’t finish the session. Ms. Fine suggested we broke the session into two part and came back next week, when he feels better, specifically saying that it would be ONE SESSION broken into two. We had a short conversation with her about the first portion and then stopped at the reception to schedule the second half of the evaluation and ask if we could pay our co-pay at the end of the second session. Then, she all of a sudden told us that we have to pay the co-pay twice. So in other words if my son was able to finish the evaluation that day it would’ve been $75, but the SAME service broken into two, as per Ms. Fine’s suggestion cost us now $150! We feel that this should've been explained to us on the spot and to be made absolutely clear.

Both of these episodes made us feel that Ms. Fine runs a business first and foremost and concerned about being a professional second.
