Overall

It is with pleasure we would like to express our appreciation of the excellent care provided to my mother by Dr. Mickael V. Kalustian and his exceptional stuff. We feel fortunate to have found Dr. Kalustian - a talented, very thorough, and highly knowledgeable Optometrist.

We were most impressed with his level of expertise, gracious demeanor, and overall choice of curative measures he offered. Dr. Kalustian correctly diagnosed my mother's eye problems and took time to explain possible therapeutic options and surgical procedures. It was a real delight for us to witness his quality of practice.

Also, a word of thanks to Shauna, who we believe represents the best of what superior personalized customer care is about.

With gratitude and best wishes,

Overall
Should receive under a half-star

The visit here was a fine one. I arrived a few minutes late; no worries and no hassle followed. The optometrist is a good one and was able to assist me perfectly and give good advice.

After my initial setup of insurance information was given an established, the problem arose.

Having had set up an appointment for this eye exam prior to going over the phone I thought it to be a smart idea to confirm as to whether or not my particular insurance was accepted.

"Do you accept United Healthcares' vision plan?" I asked clearly.

"Yes." Was the only word/response out of the receptionists mouth.

Okay, great.

Having to wait for the primary holder of the insurance to arrive to fill out her SS number, we went ahead and did the eye exam so I didn't keep him waiting.

After the information was received and put into her computer, the receptionist proceeded to tell me my insurance didn't cover the eye exam, and I owed 90$ from the get-go. No frames chose, lens style(s) not even discussed.

"Uhm, it should fully cover the exam." I had stated to where I was shown an EyeMed Card I had handed over to her in addition to my United Healthcare card from the moment I had walked in.

"No, this is only a discount card that will take an additional percentage of frames and lenses on top of what insurance covers."

I shook my head in confusion, "OK, so what about the ACTUAL insurance card?"

"Oh, that? We don't take United Healthcare Vision, only United Healthcare for medical purposes."

... And, with this being an OPTOMETRISTS, you failed to mention that rather crucial detail on the phone?

Practically fuming I knew that I'd get partially reimbursed by my insurance provider by filing the charge, I paid and walked out without another word amidst her constant bantering, trying to get me to buy frames and lenses there. Why on gods green earth I would do that; nevermind the fact that my insurance covers near 275$ for lenses and frames in total, but with her lack of an apology or even a slight mention of her mistake to the optometrist I had no intention of seeing her babble about nonsense any further.

So; 90$ out of pocket later -

The exam and doctor himself were great, but I'd most definitely suggest to ask the same question a minimum of 312 times to anyone answering a phone just to get the obvious things you should tell a customer to get through their thick skulls and out of their mouths.
