Gil's Auto Sales

When I first arrived here I was pretty optimistic. However, after meeting the owner I could tell I was talking to dishonest and incompetent people. When it came to test driving vehicles, one of them on the lot had not gas in it, and they couldn't even get it started. They clearly do not take good care of their vehicles and seem to be in the business of ripping people off and trying to make a quick buck. I highly recommend going ANYWHERE else before showing up to this dump.

When buying a used car there is a lot of room for con artists to make a quick profit like Budget Auto Sales of Carter Lake Iowa. However when I went to Gil’s Auto Sales I was quite impressed.



The Good:

The staff maintain a professional appearance and seem to really care how their customers are treated and spoken to. The GM of the company, Darren, was the man who assisted me today with the purchase of my vehicle. I very much liked the no pressure sales approach. However, I took a mechanic to test drive the vehicles before I made any decision.



The Bad:

We test drove three vehicles. Car 1 had a power steering issue and the seatbelt trapped the mechanic into the seat and we decided against it. Car 2 tested perfectly and Car 3 had extreme break issues (like wouldn’t stop break issues!).

My budget was 2500 dollars. In this bracket you are going to find a lot of rough cars. It’s just a fact. Take someone you trust who knows cars and test drive the vehicles extensively before signing any agreement. This is common knowledge when approaching a used car lot.



Overall I'd give it 4 Stars because of the car issues on some of the vehicles but 5 Stars in service.

We bought a car here and were so pleased with the friendly service. When we need our next car , we will go back . They have alot to choose from and a great price. Our car runs great. Thanks to them!

This place is a rip off. Bought a vehicle from here and within a week I was having engine problems. Talk to a guy named darrel here said they would try to help me out. Never called me back. Everytime I would call back he wasn't available. Now just over a month of having this vehicle the engine needs to be replaced. Just talk to a guy name John who said these things happen, also told me darrel will call me (never did). I am in the process of filing a complaint with the BBB. This is fair warning, stay clear of the place.

Don't ever buy here. You can buy hoping for a running project vehicle and it not operate the very next day, LITERALLY! The BBB should close their doors.
