Preventive Care

Dental Care
Dentistry: Dental prophylaxis (cleaning), polishing and, if needed, extractions. These services are performed while your pet is under general anesthesia. A dental cleaning unit isused to remove bacteria and plaque that can cause heart/kidney disease, chronic infections and gum disease/tooth loss. Fluoride application is available.
Vaccination
Plum Animal Hospital has been well-established in the Plum Borough area for over 30 years. Dr. Leonard Jones acquired the small animal practice in 1999. Our practical and modern facility allows us to provide you with many different aspects of veterinary medicine. Annual health exams, preventative care and vaccinations are available during scheduled office visits. Our dentistry services are an important part of maintaining your animal’s health. At our hospital, we have an in-house laboratory and radiology equipment to make diagnosing health concerns possible. If treatment is necessary, we maintain a large pharmacy containing medications for most conditions. There is a dedicated surgical suite in which we perform sterile surgical procedures while using modern technology to monitor your pets vital signs. Practicing high-quality, veterinary medicine is very important to Dr. Jones and his staff. Our philosophy is to provide your family with a comfortable environment in which you witness compassionate care for your cat or dog. Spaying and Neutering
Surgery / Anesthesia: Elective surgeries that are recommended at six months and will provide your cat or dog a healthier lifestyle include ovariohysterectomy (spay for females) and castration (neuter for males). Onchyectomy (declaw for cats) and tendonectomy (for cats) are available. Some health conditions or diseases require surgical intervention. Procedure and patient specific anesthetics are used. Patients may receive an IV catheter, fluids and medications, as needed. Our custom surgical suite provides your pet with a proper environment during sterile procedures. Anesthetic monitoring includes pulse oximeter, respiratory monitor, EKG and heated table.

Laboratory Services
Laboratory: Our in-house, diagnostic laboratory can inform our doctors about your pet’s general health. Parasite and diagnostic testing are performed. Prior to anesthetizing an animal for surgery, it is a good idea to check blood-work for liver and kidney functions. These are the organs that process the anesthesia. Specific blood tests will show the doctor if there are any asymptomatic conditions affecting your pet. Specialized diagnostic testing is contracted through a local lab with most results the next business day.
X-Ray
Microchipping
Micro-chipping: This is a permanent identification procedure. We use AVID, a small microchip that is injected under the skin around the shoulder region. A scanner can then pick up the number from the chip that is assigned to your pet. Owner information is contained in a national database. If your pet becomes lost, most veterinarians and animal shelters have the ability to scan the chip and access the owner information. This procedure can be performed while your pet is in the office for an exam or during a surgical visit.

General Pet Care

Senior Pet Care
Exams: Annual health care for dogs and cats of all ages should include a complete physical exam. Geriatric (senior pets above 7 years) exams will monitor for early signs of potential diseases and conditions. We have an inventory of heartworm preventatives, as well as internal and external parasite control.
