Allergy Shots, often known as Allergen Immunotherapy or Allergy Vaccination is mainly a long-term treatment that helps in reducing the allergic symptoms in people. Allergy immunotherapy is an effective vaccination program that can increase your immunity to substances called allergens that trigger your symptoms. Allergen immunotherapy (allergy desensitization shots) primarily involves administering gradually increasing amounts of an allergen to a patient over several months. The injections are first given on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and when the maintenance level is reached, eventually on a monthly basis. This process reduces symptoms that are otherwise triggered by allergen exposure. Immunotherapy treatment is the closest thing to cureÂ for allergic symptoms, because once you reach a maintenance dose of allergen vaccine or have finished your course of treatment, your symptoms are greatly reduced.

An allergist/immunologist is a doctor specially trained to manage and treat allergies and asthma. Becoming an allergist/immunologist requires completion of at least nine years of training. After completing medical school and graduating with a medical degree, a physician will then undergo three years of training in internal medicine (to become an internist) or pediatrics (to become a pediatrician). Once the physicians have finished training in one of these specialties, they must pass the exam of either the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) or the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

Asthma patients should record fetal activity or kick counts daily to help monitor their baby according to their physicianâ€™s instructions.

Your doctor may order a MRI or CT scan to look for abnormalities in the sinuses â€“ narrow drainage passages, polyps or a deviated septum.

Adverse reactions to medications range from vomiting and hair loss with cancer chemotherapy to upset stomach from aspirin or diarrhea from antibiotics. If you take ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitors for high blood pressure, you may develop a cough or facial and tongue swelling.

Eczema
Infants should not be fed solid foods until they are six months old. When infants are six to twelve months old, vegetables, rice, meat and fruit can be introduced to their diets. Each food should be introduced one at a time so parents or caregivers can identify elimination diet that can cause allergy symptoms. After the child is one year old, milk, wheat, corn, citrus and soy may be added. Finally, at two years of age, eggs and fish may added to the childâ€™s diet, and peanuts may be introduced after age three. This dietary regimen has been shown to reduce or delay food allergies and the allergic skin disease atopic dermatitis or eczema in infants of allergic parents.
