Patients are often evaluated with duplex ultrasound. This safe, painless study allows for visualization of the diseased vein and to check for reflux. Reflux, the tendency of blood to “pool” in the vein, is the basis for the development of varicosities. Left untreated, varicose veins can contribute to more significant health-related problems.
