Injustice at Mike & Rands Automotive Shop



Just a few hours ago today I experienced complete and absolute injustice at Mike & Rands. My mother followed me to Mike & Rands to get my car inspected and when we got there I spoke with Mike and informed him I was simply there for an inspection. He said it would be about two hours before he could get to my inspection because his mechanics were working on two other cars. I told Mike that I would leave the car with him to complete the inspection. Mike asked me for my car key and a contact number to reach me. I provided both and left with my mom to take my sister to school. About 15 minutes later I got a call from Mike saying everything on my car was great but I needed front and back brakes to fully pass inspection. I asked Mike how much it would cost if he repairs the brakes. At the time I wasn’t concerned about how he got to my car in so little time when he just gave me a two hour timeframe. I later realized that he was in such a hurry to try to scam me out of my money that he got to my car right away. He informed me that it would be more than $300.00 and I immediately told Mike NO! I told Mike do not repair my brakes, and to reject my inspection. I called my mechanic right after I got off the phone with Mike and set an appointment. My mechanic told me he could repair my brakes the very next morning for only $35.00 I just had to buy the brakes which is only about $50.00 at Auto Zone. So I’m thinking great I’ll go buy the brakes, get them put on and then I go back to finish the inspection. I dropped my sister off at school and we returned to Mike’s shop to pay for the inspection. Mike informs me that my total is $320.00. I ask him “for the inspection”? He tells me that he put new brakes on my car. I told Mike that he would have to remove those brakes from my car immediately because I did not give him verbal or written consent to do any repairs on my car. I reminded Mike that I specifically told him not to repair the brakes due to the cost of his services. Mike informed me that I told him to repair the brakes and that he could not take the brakes off because he had already passed my inspection and it is against the law to reject a car’s inspection just after passing it. I told Mike there has to be something done because I did not permit him to fix my car. Mike told me there was nothing he could do. I called the police and it was basically my word against his so basically we have to go court but he got to keep my car in his shop. Mike said he would reduce the price by $100.00 basically trying to get whatever he could from me. I even tried to give Mike the benefit of the doubt and told him maybe he miss heard me but Mike insisted that I told him to fix the brakes and then he looked me in the eyes and swore to God that I told him to repair my car as if that would convince me that he is not lying. I guess he was trying to convince the officer because there was no way he could convince me I said something I know for a fact I did not say. Mike had no legit answers to why there was no paperwork signed before this repair was done. I was in disbelief because I was completely innocent and was being told that my only option was to go to court meanwhile I’m out of possession of my vehicle. It just did not make sense to me at all how he could get away with this. There are a million things that I wish I would have done differently to avoid what happened. However instead of focusing on those things I rather inform others about this guy and hope that it helps someone avoid going through what I did today. This guy is a complete rip off and I have a feeling that he has done this before. This was my first and last visit to Mike & Rands. Take this as a warning and stay away!!!!!!
