Environment Changes – If you have mild dry eyes you may be able to improve your symptoms just by changing your environment. Sitting too close to a heating or air conditioning vent exposes the eye to a constant flow of forced air, which can make tears evaporate too quickly. Most heating systems dry out your home’s air even if you don’t sit too close to the vent. A humidifier can help put moisture back into the air. Cigarette smoke can also irritate and dry out the eye surface. Smoking cessation often improves symptoms.

Macular Degeneration
Age related macular degeneration, also known as AMD, is a degenerative eye disease of the blood vessels located in the macula which is part of the retina. The macula is responsible for our sharp, central vision. AMD is a major cause of severe central vision loss in Americans aged 55 and older. The most notable symptom of macular degeneration is blurry or distorted central vision. A person with AMD may experience blurry words on a page, distortion at the center of vision, a dark or empty area in the center of vision, or the distortion of lines.

I am SO thankful for the staff at Eye Care and Surgery! I am relatively young, at least in needing cataract surgery. The staf was professional and caring, answering my questions about the whole process. I chose the laser option and went with monovision lenses, one eye for distance, and one eye for reading. The change in my everyday life is amazing. I had difficulty reading, even with strong reading glasses before surgery. But, thanks to Dr Eng and his staff, I can see very well, and do things I wasn’t able to previously. I am so thankful for each of you! You truly are God’s hands on this earth! You have made such a difference in my life. Thank you!!!!!

This group is just awesome! The level of customer care especially from the gals at the Electric Rd office is off the charts. They are kind, responsive and thorough. My first eye exam with Dr. Driscoll was like none I have had in Roanoke or Salem. She goes the extra mile and she listens. I am very happy I am in her care now. This group is not out to just sell you glasses or get you a surgery, they really CARE about their patients eyes. I wish they could teach Carilion a lesson or two in human kindness! I was referred here by several very happy people and I thought it only fair I pass if forward.

Background diabetic retinopathy is a sign that your retina’s blood vessels are sick. If enough of the blood vessels rupture, the retina may not receive enough blood to keep it healthy. With Background Diabetic Retinopathy damaged blood vessels in the retina begin to leak extra fluid and small amounts of blood into the eye, sometimes spilling enough blood to fill up the eye.
