Hunan Chilliking

I love spicy-hot food. Yesterday 4 friends introduced me to this amazing family restaurant.
It really helped that 3 of my friends speak Mandarin and knew this menu very, very well. We shared Tofu with Chili, house special spicy Fried Rice, Pork with Green Chilis, Chicken with Chili and Ginger, and their special Cabbage (for unique flavor, ask for peeled rather than cut). I can't wait to go back, but I warn you, I've been ramping up my chili consumption for weeks to prepare for this place. I make salsa at home from a mix of jalapeños and serranos, lime, ginger, garlic, and basil. Even then, eating at Chilliking is an intense experience. If you're an anglo American, like me, best be an adventuresome diner and in the mood to stretch your cultural boundaries a bit. Better yet, do what I did: go with a regular: someone who has a couple favorite dishes, can speak Mandarin with the waiters, and can show you the ropes.

This place is an experience for non spicy eaters. The flavor is great, so is the spice! Be prepared to face the heat!!
