Sinusitis
Nasal polyps are fleshy, watery-appearing swellings or growths that arise from the lining of the nasal and sinus cavities. They are found more commonly in patients with allergies, chronic sinusitis, and asthma. They are also associated with certain hereditary conditions, such as cystic fibrosis. Nasal polyps are non-cancerous. They may vary in size, and while generally benign, may cause problems by blocking the drainage pathways of the sinuses making a person more susceptible to developing sinus infections. Larger polyps may fill the entire nasal cavity and cause blockage to airflow. They may also cause a decrease in sense of smell.
Primary Care
Otolaryngologists diagnose and manage diseases of the sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity, and upper pharynx (mouth and throat), as well as structures of the neck and face, as well as many ENT primary care problems in both children and adults.
Ear Infections
Hearing loss affects one in ten North Americans. The unique domain of otolaryngologists is the treatment of ear disorders. They are trained in both the medical and surgical treatment of hearing, ear infections, balance disorders, ear noise (tinnitus), nerve pain, and facial and cranial nerve disorders. Otolaryngologists also manage congenital (birth) disorders of the outer and inner ear.

Infectious Diseases
This center of the body includes the important nerves that control sight, smell, hearing, and the face. In the head and neck area, otolaryngologists are trained to treat infectious diseases, both benign and malignant (cancerous) tumors, facial trauma, and deformities of the face. They perform both cosmetic plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Labor and Delivery
The septum can be easily injured through physical contact, sports activities, falls or minor accidents. Unless the injury was severe, a deviated septum can remain un-diagnosed until breathing difficulties become pronounced. In some cases, this condition is present at birth either from the stress of childbirth or prenatal injury.

Ms. Yip has had extensive work experience as a clinician in both primary care and internal medicine setting. Since she joined Cal Sinus Center, she has been incorporating her broad medical knowledge to comphrensively treat and manage our sinus patients. Ms. Yip understands the importance of treating the patient as a whole instead of a conglomerate of different diseases.
Endoscopy
Diagnosis of nasal polyps generally requires a nasal endoscopy and a CT (computerized tomography) scan of the sinuses. Nasal endoscopy is a more detailed examination of the nasal cavity using a small, lighted, magnified scope, usually performed by an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat physician). This is an office procedure performed with some light, topical anesthesia. Testing for allergies may also be recommended.

Mental Health
The federal “No Surprises Act” grants consumers the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much their medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers, including psychotherapists, must give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for treatment services.

Sinus and nasal cavity tumors are most commonly benign (non-cancerous) and do not spread to other parts of the body. These tumors typically occur on one side of the nose and are usually slow growing. Malignant (cancerous) tumors are rare. There are approximately 2,000 new cases of sinus tumors in the United States each year. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of cancer found in the sinuses and nasal cavity. Other types of cancer include: adenocarcinoma, lymphoma, melanoma and esthesioneuroblastoma (olfactory neuroblastoma).
