        I went to Pep Boys today to get an alignment on my 2002 Chevy Avalanche. After about 40 minutes the technician came in and told me that I had bad right and left Tie Rods. He said that the Rods were locked up and could not be free for adjustments. The cost to repair this problem would be $650.00 Plus tax . I am a retired mechanic (about 30 Years in the business) and I know my truck very well. I also know that this was an inflated price. So I asked him to show me the problem on the truck. The technician clearly did not know what he was talking about. He was also using incorrect tools to free up the Tie Rods (a pipe wrench). I quickly told service manager to Jack my truck down and I was leaving. I took my truck to Sears and had them do a alignment. It only took 30 minutes and I had a 6 month guarantee on the job. Pep Boys franchise should really check this store business practices.
