No! No! No! No! No!

Has anyone who boarded actually gone in the back to see the conditions these dogs are in? Well, I did. And I quickly removed my dog and found somewhere else that was clean and actually maintained.

Let me start by saying the manager and the kennel manager were very nice. The front of the store was clean and welcoming (def. didn't reflect the back and is so misleading to customers!). The condition of the place is not the fault of the workers, but the owner(s). The owners should be ashamed of themselves.

I reserved a suite. Suite.. meaning I was paying MORE to give my dog a special place that would allow him to not be as homesick. Soft bed, a view, some extra pampering. Their version of a suite ... a dim light CLOSET that was rarely cleaned!!!

The closet did have a small window that was made out of plexiglass and was so scratched and fogged, you could barely see out of it. It was about 4 feet off the ground, by 12 inches wide.

They had 1 light bulb in the light fixture where you could hardly see. I asked for light bulbs and put new ones in myself because according to the worker, it would be that evening when "the boys came in" and they could put the bulbs in. The room was so intense with the smell of urine, my nose was burning. No bed..my dog was given a small child's sleeping bag. I asked would he get a bed, and they answered no, because the dogs just chew and ruin them. I asked how they were going to cool the room (closet) since it's an enclosed closet and she said we just turn the ceiling fan on higher. What? No air conditioning?

So let me get this straight - I pay a premium to lock my dog in a dim light, hot, closet, with a small sleeping bag, with no natural light, and enough odor to burn his nostrils... and you think this is acceptable?

Where the day boarding dogs are is a small space, but they do get to go outside whenever they want. However, the metal cages they keep these dogs in were so rusty, how has a dog not contracted something by now who are kept in them? The grooming tub really needed a good cleaning. Everything was simply outdated, unkempt, and disgusting. Seriously, once you walk past what customers can see in the front, you will be disgusted.

You will notice on their site, there are NO PICTURES of where your dog would actually be (boarding or daycare). Owners have done a great job of just showing you bits of the outdoor space, or up in the front where they cut the dogs. No pictures of the 2 suites (closets), no pictures of the rusty enclosure and rusty metal dog crates. No pictures of the space above the closets full of crap. No pictures of the grooming tub.

For the owners of this place - you should be disgusted with yourselves. If you wouldn't sleep in the space you've given to the dogs, then it's not acceptable. It's not the employees fault, it's yours. I would hope any and all fur parents would actually come to the back and check it out. I think they'll change their minds quickly after seeing the conditions.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG THERE!! L...

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG THERE!! Let me preface this buy saying that i myself used to own a dog daycare and i know how to tell when dogs are not being taken care of. I also could tell you at any given time EXACTLY what was going on in my daycare and if any of the dogs were misbehaving. The last couple times i had picked my dog up from this place he was bouncing off the walls when he got home which indicates hes not getting play time although that is what i am paying for. He also gulps down huge amounts of water which indicates dehydration from being stuck in a kennel all day with no water to drink. In addition the moment he gets out the front door he pees and pees and pees and pees which is another sign that he is being locked up all day.He also got a urinary tract infection the last time he boarded there which hindsight being 20/20 i know realize was because he was being locked up all day. So the last three visits i have gone around back to look in through the fence to see if he was out playing. GUESS WHAT! all three times he was no where in site. The play area is very small and can clearly be seen from the outside. Today when i went to pick him up from boarding i made the manager take me back into the play area before telling anyone to bring him out. Sure enough he was locked in a kennel. When i asked the manager why he was in a kennel he said he didn't know. And went back to talk to the kennel tech. He then comes out and tells me that the last few times my dog has been there he has gotten in fights. Now my dog used to goto my daycare every day for 2 years. I have seen him interact with hundreds of dogs. The only time he has gotten into fights was when another dog became aggressive with him which dogs being dogs it happens and is natural. After pressing the manager(who i suspect is really the owner) about why no one said this was going on he basically told me he doesnt know what is going on in his daycare unless someone tells him. REALLY! he then proceeded to tell me that they keep "Troublesome" (meaning rambunctious) dogs separated in kennels while the other dogs are out playing. then they will put everyone away and bring the "troublesome" dogs out for a few minutes each and then put them back in the kennel. To top it off. my dog was not allowed to take pictures with santa for the Christmas party. When i questioned the manager on why this he said "I just found out about that this morning. I was not here over the weekend." He then follows this statement up a minute later with the following comment "I was here all day for the Christmas photos. I don't know why he was not included in them" SOOO first hes not there then he is there. Added to that when i picked up my dog today he has destroyed his bed. And it is covered in poop and pee stains. YET another indication of being locked up all day. So lets review the facts here: 1) The manager has admitted to not knowing what is going on in his own daycare. 2) They have admitted to keeping my dog locked up but never once said a word to me about what was going on and yet still CHARGED me for daycare service. 3) The manager has admitted that this practice of locking dogs up away from the "non rambunctious" dogs is a common practice there. 4) I have personally not seen my dog playing the last three times i have looked for him even though when i pick him up they employees say how he had so much fun and just played and played. 5) My dog shows all the signs of being locked away for extended periods of time. I hope that if you are reading this you will find somewhere else to take your dog. I realize in this area there are not a lot of options but sitting at home is infinitely better than taking your loved pet to someplace that mistreats him.

We went out of town so we took...

We went out of town so we took our two Lhasa Apso Bennie & Missie to The Paw Plex for boarding, a friend recommended them. They loved it & we weren't worried about them while we were gone because the staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and the play and boarding area was so nice. ( not a cage they were locked up in all day like when they board at our vets.) While we were out of town my wife was on facebook and went to facebook.com/thepawplex and Karen had posted a picture of Bennie & Missie outside playing, it made the rest of the trip better for us. Bennie & Missie love The Paw Plex & we highly recommend them for boarding, daycare & grooming.
