Emergency Care
A Celebration of Life On the night of December 11, 2005, Santa Paula resident Veronica Salas arrived at Community Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room with a failing heart and acute respiratory failure. She was in many ways experiencing the medical crisis of a 90-year-old patient - except Veronica was only 26.

Lung Cancer
Moving to the University of Iowa for my three year Cardiothoracic surgery fellowship, I spent a year of dedicated research with experimentation in the newly developing field of immunotherapy versus lung cancer. There was no shortage of heart disease in the heartland, but three Iowa winters motivated a move back to coastal California. Here in Ventura I have been able to apply my academic center training in a community hospital setting which has been very supportive in developing state-of-the-art, evidence-based Cardiothoracic surgical care.

General Surgery
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I grew up watching the surrounding orchards transform into Silicon Valley. This enhanced my interest in technology and innovation, which has stayed with me throughout my medical career. As a premed student in biology at the University of Utah I closely followed the first successful artificial heart implantation. I stayed there for medical school and residency in general surgery.
Robotic Surgery
At the Forefront: Da Vinci Robotic Surgery The most experienced da Vinci surgeons in the region are at Community Memorial Hospital. These surgeons have performed more than 500 procedures using the da Vinci Robotic System.
Laparoscopy
Our thoracic surgeons excel at the entire range of minimally invasive and complex open surgery required for treatment of disorders of the chest. Whenever possible, they favor minimally invasive techniques including use of the DaVinci Robot, Video Assisted Thoracoscopy (VATS) and Laparoscopy.
