Overall

I have never boarded my dog so I was very nervous when booking his stay at Shipps Corner Pet Resort and Spa. I called and spoke to an associate and let them know my dog was a rescue, was very social and that I would like him boarded with his brother (my sisters dog) so he would not be alone and frightened. The associate suggested a suite so that they could be together and that he could play with the dogs everyday for up to 2 hours. I figured, ok, he is with his brother and he will play and wear himself out, so he will not mind it too much. Note, my dog was rescued from Animal Control over 4 years ago....he had a very bad first year of life and I explained this to the staff so that they may be gentle with him. As the compulsive mother that I am, I called everyday to check up on him. I was informed that he was NOT allowed any social time with the other animals. I asked why and the Manager explained, "your dog is shy and I have Golden Retriever and Labradors out there and I will not put them or my staff in danger". I did not realize that "SHY" made my pet a danger....not to mention every dog in there is probably a little shy and timid as they are in a foreign setting. I explained that he was super sweet and I booked him to have play time because he is a gentle giant. The Manager said, I am using my discretion and your dog will not have any social time for the remainder of his stay,

5 days later, my sister and I go and pick the dogs up. At time of check out, I am being charged for (2) dogs and (2) suites. I said, "my dogs were boarded together so I had (1) suite with (2) dogs. The same MANAGER comes over and says "we decided not to board the two dogs together. We felt in was in the best interest if we separated them". Why are you separating brothers that were booked to be boarded together? I of course was livid. The Manager was on the total defense and was never once rational in her responses. I booked my dog for playtime as he is friendly, he didn't get it. I booked my dogs to stay together in a suite, they were separated. You are charging me for something I did not book because you used your discretion and want me to pay the difference. And my dogs did not get bathed as they were supposed to. To top it off, as I explained to the Manager my unhappiness with the experience, another customer in the waiting area began yelling at me.....involving himself into the conversation. Instead of the Manager saying, "sir, I will be with you in a moment, she allowed him to continue yelling at me...which was none of his business. Very unprofessional. In short, they do NOT read your paperwork, they make their own rules for your pets, regardless of what you booked, they discriminate against certain breeds which is clearly what they did with my 2 dogs and they are absolutely unprofessional. It was the worst experience I have ever had. And all of that cost me over $400.00. BEWARE!!!!

I have been employed with Ship...

I have been employed with Shipps Corner for over 4 years and can guarantee you that is the first and only time that has ever happened. The gates are secure and tall enough to ensure dogs can not escape them and the owner of the company is there daily checking on the place making sure everything with both dogs and facility is up to par.

I have been a client of shipps corner pet spa for four years i have two golden retrievers and a pit mix, they love shipps corner and i love them as well though it is a unfortunate that this has happened to your friend i believe that it was just a terrible mistake. I have plenty of friends who board with them as well as attend thier daycare and we have never had anything bad happen, sometimes accidents happen and the only thing we can do is look forward. Im glad that your friends dog was found, but i must speak very truthfully when i say that this has not happened as often as you say this is actually the first time that ive known this to happen in the four years that ive boarded with them. I would reccomend shipps corner to any and everyone

Had a friend boarder their dog...

Had a friend boarder their dog there and they lost him. Fortunately he found his way back to a past residence 3-4 miles away. I posted a lost dog posting on facebook and had a few people say that it has happened several times before. Seems employees leave the gate open in the play area. Go ahead people take your chances.

GROOMING SERVICES

MY DOG HAS BEEN A CUSTOMER OF SHIPPS CORNER PET SPA SINCE IT OPENED. WE HAVE USED MOST OF THEIR OFFERED SERVICES. HOWEVER, THE IN PAST FEW MONTHS THE GROOMING SERVICE HAS GONE CONSIDERABLY DOWNHILL. IN THE LAST THREE VISITS, A) HIS NECK WAS NICKED IN SEVERAL PLACES WHERE IT WAS SHAVED TOO CLOSE, B) AFTER A 7 HOUR SUNDAY GROOMING APPOINTMENT HE CAME BACK LOOKING LIKE HE HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN BATHED LET ALONE TRIMMED, C) THE LAST APPOINTMENT ON 8/8/08, WAS EQUALLY AS BAD. HE APPEARED NEITHER TRIMMED OR CLEAN. THE ONLY VISIBLE GROOMING WAS A TOO CLOSE SANI-CUT, WHICH I HAD SPECIFICALLY ASKED THAT THEY NOT DO.

I AM REALLY DISGUSTED WITH THEIR SERVICES AT THIS POINT.
