Simply defined, arthritis is inflammation of one or more of your joints. The most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, but there are more than 100 different forms.

Computed Tomography
Computed tomography (CT) scans. These scans are not typically used to help diagnose problems in throwers' elbows. CT scans provide a three-dimensional image of bony structures, and can be very helpful in defining bone spurs or other bony disorders that may limit motion or cause pain.

Arthroscopy
The word arthroscopy comes from two Greek words, "arthro" (joint) and "skopein" (to look). The term literally means "to look within the joint." During elbow arthroscopy, your surgeon inserts a small camera, called an arthroscope, into your elbow joint. The camera displays pictures on a television screen, and your surgeon uses these images to guide miniature surgical instruments.
Wound Care
Wound care. You will have staples running along your wound or a suture beneath your skin. The staples will be removed several weeks after surgery. A suture beneath your skin will not require removal.
Pinched Nerve
Your doctor will check for other problems with your shoulder joint. He or she may also examine your neck to make sure that the pain is not coming from a "pinched nerve," and to rule out other conditions, such as arthritis.
Ankle Surgery
Dr. Brandão is actively involved in research, authoring several peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as lecturing at national and local meetings. He has actively been involved in the training of surgical residents and fellows over the last 4 years, and will be joining the fellowship faculty at OFAC. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and board-certified in Foot and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery. Additionally, he serves as an article reviewer for the Foot and Ankle Specialist journal.
Joint Replacement
Shoulder replacement surgery was first performed in the United States in the 1950s to treat severe shoulder fractures. Over the years, shoulder joint replacement has come to be used for many other painful conditions of the shoulder, such as different forms of arthritis.
Arthroscopy

Knee Replacement
During knee replacement surgery, damaged bone and cartilage is resurfaced with metal and plastic components. Knee Arthroscopy
Knee arthroscopy is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures. In it, a miniature camera is inserted through a small incision. This provides a clear view of the inside of the knee. Your orthopaedic surgeon inserts miniature surgical instruments through other small incisions to do the procedure.

Most candidates for articular cartilage restoration are young adults with a single injury, or lesion. Older patients, or those with many lesions in one joint, are less likely to benefit from the surgery.

Brad E. Brautigan, M.D. Dr. Brad Brautigan has been with Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville since 2000. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from West Virginia Wesleyan College. He graduated Doctor of Medicine in 1994 from West Virginia University. Brautigan completed his orthopaedic residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and his sports medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Brautigan is a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic surgeons.
Physical Therapy
Small tears of the tendon can make it difficult to walk and participate in other daily activities. A large tear of the patellar tendon is a disabling injury. It usually requires surgery and physical therapy to regain full knee function.
Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow is an inflammation of the tendons that join the forearm muscles on the outside of the elbow. The forearm muscles and tendons become damaged from overuse — repeating the same motions again and again. This leads to pain and tenderness on the outside of the elbow.

While there he was recognized as a Baltimore ''TOP DOC'' from 2018-2022. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) where he served as Co-Chief Resident. He received his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) with honors from the Samuel Merritt University of Oakland, CA and completed his undergraduate education at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.
