PetSmart

I had a wonderful experience with the staff at Petsmart on 183. Specifically the young woman working the Bansfield desk on Friday, 12/09/2011. I came across a kitten who'd been chased up a tree by a dog. I'd heard the dog barking for awhile, but I didn't realize why until hours later. My boyfriend and I had to go knock on the neighbors door to ask if they could take their dog inside long enough for us to get the kitten out of the tree. It took us awhile since we didn't have a ladder. While trying to figure out how we were going to get the cat down, I had looked up the website of the closest shelter. it was the one on Valley View Ln in Irving. I called and the phone rang for about 20 mins before anyone picked up. Once they did they told me that they closed at 5:30. I was confused because the website said 6. It was a Friday night, so I assume they were just trying to leave early for the day. I arrived at the shelter right at 6pm. There were still people in the office even though they'd turned off most of the lights. I proceeded to tell the lady that I had found this kitten in a tree and I couldn't keep it over night since I myself had three dogs that were not cat friendly, nor did I have any means to accommodate a cat. They lady turned me away and said come back tomorrow. I told her that I had to work the next day and wouldn't be able to make it back. I told her that I didn't know anyone who would take the cat and I'd have to put it back outside it they didn't take it. I was going to be a very cold night and I just didn't want to do that to the kitten. She didn't seem to care about the cat or my situation and turned me away. I drove to the Petsmart on 183 just down the road and they were more than willing to help me. They called different cat organization and told me if they couldn't come get the kitten they would gladly keep him over night and turn him over to the city. I hope I never find an animal in need of shelter on a Friday evening because I know that the Irving Animal Shelter won't help me. Thank you Petsmart for stepping in and helping me find a good kitten a place to stay overnight.
